THE ELEVATOR PITCH

My passion for photography began when my grandma (bestie) gifted me a camera on my 12th birthday. Though, it does sort of feel that photography was a part of me before I even knew it. Both of my great grandfathers shared this passion, with one opening a print shop and the other building a dark room at home to develop his own film. As well, my grandma is a talented bird photographer herself. As I continue to grow as an artist, I find myself most drawn to working with those in the wedding and portrait industry who value creativity, being intentional, and doing things their own way. My specialty has accidentally (but happily) become my inventive, sometimes-campy, creative engagement shoots and most recently, I was honoured to be included on Junebug’s international list of Top 50 Engagement Photos of the year.

MY APPROACH

I don’t just look to the wedding industry for inspiration. Instead, I draw from a variety of artistic fields including film, music videos, old magazine publications and fine art. This contributes to building a well rounded and creative outlook on composition, colours, posing and mood.

I lead with passion and take pride in my work ethic. I truly do not know how to give anything other than 120% effort for anything I do. I meet each opportunity to capture or create with dedication and genuine excitement. To add to this, photography is more than just a job for me—it does feel quite vocational, and with that feeling comes a sense of responsibility to show up and do my best.

Nostalgia and I are best friends. If you see me scrolling on my phone, I’m most likely looking at old photos and videos on my camera roll. Time passing is such a wild concept to me, and documenting moments that will become memories is one of the most important things I can think of. Looking back truly has me in a chokehold…but the nice kind? A hug? Looking back to me feels like a hug.

Shocking: my completely unrelated degree I got before I went all in on photography is actually helpful in photography!!! Before taking the plunge into the freelance world, I actually went to university for Social Work. This equipped me with the tools to connect with people, understand their unique stories, and create a comfortable, relaxed environment that allows others to show up free of any pressure or expectation. All highly important and relevant aspects of being a wedding photographer.

Getting here has a been a journey. By “here” I think I mostly mean leaning into my personal approach to weddings, and because of its - at times - untraditional nature, learning to embracing the fact that I may not be for everyone. Above all, I want to make art, and I believe that good art can be polarizing. So, while I may not be understood by some, it is always outweighed by the profound connection created with those who do choose me.
